Find Your Groove: Group Singing Classes For Adults at Groove Music School

A message from our Founder / Vocal Instructor, Cheryl Loon:

I’m so excited to be rolling out these group vocal / singing lessons so that many more students out there can benefit from learning how to sing in a setting that’s not as stressful because you’d be with many others who are looking to improve their singing. On the other hand, I know some may find group classes nerve wrecking especially if they are put in a spot to sing in front of everyone. I know, I know! I’ve been there and honestly, I still don’t like being the centre of attention but I’ve learnt to overcome that.

I want to promise you that I have thought long and hard about how I can make the environment comfortable, inclusive, insightful and fun for everyone.

At Groove Music School, our group singing lessons for beginners are different because of the high standards I set for myself and the classes I conduct. We believe in:

  • Honest and transparent in my interactions with you. I believe in open communication.
  • Maintain a high level of competence and adhere to the highest ethical standards in my practice.
  • Treat all students with respect, regardless of their background, abilities, or beliefs.
  • Show compassion and empathy for everyone’s experiences and challenges.
  • Treat all students with fairness and equality.
  • Avoid causing harm to you or others through my actions or inactions.

But most importantly, why this is going to be different is because I have taken a lot of time to work on this curriculum with the aim of overcoming the challenges people encounter in group classes, some of which are:

  • Don’t have enough individual 1-1 time or personalisation
  • Feeling lost in between lessons and no time for questions
  • Can’t keep up with the pace
  • Overcoming self-doubt
  • Fear of judgement
  • Varying skill levels in class

My goal for everyone who comes to this class is to walk home feeling like you have:

  • Become a better singer in your own way
  • Have acquired the fundamentals of singing
  • Gained more confidence in singing
  • Learnt to like your voice more than before

    FAQs about Group Vocal Lessons

What is the difference between individual vocal lessons and vocal group classes?

Individual vocal lessons focus on personalising your vocal technique, addressing specific areas such as pitch, breath control, and vocal range. Group vocal classes, while still focused on fundamentals, allow you to practice those techniques in a group setting, where you work on singing with others.
Vocal group classes allow you to practice foundational vocal techniques, such as breathing and pitch, alongside others. The group setting fosters a supportive environment that helps build confidence in your singing while focusing on your individual vocal development. Additionally, you’ll benefit from hearing the coach’s feedback and corrections given to others, which can offer valuable insights into improving your own technique.
Not at all! Our vocal group classes are designed for all levels, whether you’re a beginner or have some experience. You’ll work on the basics of vocal technique, such as breath control, pitch accuracy, and vocal warm-ups, in a group setting. Everyone moves at their own pace, and the focus is on building a strong foundation for vocal growth.
If you are comfortable with basic singing techniques and want to explore group singing while continuing to work on your vocal foundation, you’re ready! Group classes are designed to be welcoming and inclusive, so even if you haven’t sung in a group before, you’ll still receive personalised feedback on your vocal development.
In a group setting, you’ll practice vocal techniques such as breath control, pitch, and vocal resonance, with the added benefit of applying these techniques to a group dynamic. You’ll also learn how to adapt your vocal style to work harmoniously in a group while receiving individual feedback. Group classes give you the chance to experience your vocal growth alongside others, which can help reinforce your technique and performance skills.

You’ll receive some individual feedback during group lessons. While the group will focus on collective singing, each participant will get some personal guidance on their vocal technique. The teacher will assess your individual needs and provide targeted advice to help improve your technique, along with exercises to strengthen your voice.

We tailor the vocal exercises to accommodate different skill levels while ensuring that everyone works on the same foundational techniques. Advanced students may focus more on vocal expression and dynamics, while beginners can concentrate on mastering basic vocal skills. The teacher will provide personalised feedback within the group context, ensuring everyone progresses at their own pace.

In our vocal group classes, we explore a variety of genres, including pop, musical theatre, and contemporary music. These styles allow students to practice foundational techniques while also learning how to interpret and perform music.

No need to prepare material ahead of time. Come as you are!
Your first vocal group class will begin with warm-ups to get your voice ready. The teacher will guide you through vocal exercises, such as breathing techniques and pitch control, and introduce the song material for the class. Expect a mix of group practice and individual feedback as you start applying your foundational vocal techniques in a group setting.
Our vocal group classes typically have 4 to 8 participants. This size allows for personal feedback while still giving you the experience of working with others. The smaller class size ensures that the teacher can attend to everyone’s vocal technique and provide individual support.

Our group singing classes are priced at $320 for four lessons.

Definitely! We offer trial classes so you can experience the group setting and see how our vocal techniques are applied in a collaborative environment. It’s a great opportunity to determine if the group classes align with your vocal goals and learning style.
